It’s time for a change in UFCW Local 8-GS.

At What Cost is fighting for worker power in UFCW Local 8-GS.

3 Changes We’ll Make on Day 1

to put members back in control of our union

  1. Union Leaders Who Show Up

Members deserve union leaders who show up all the time, not just election time. We work hard. Our leaders should too — without the cushy $300k salaries paid for by our dues.

  2. Strong, Transparent Contracts

We will make contract negotiations open to members and build a strike fund with first day strike pay. We will never leave members in the dark about their own contract.

  3. Steward Training for Every Steward, in Every Store

A strong union starts with education. No more business as usual.

Q&A

What's wrong with our current leadership?

We’re tired of union officials living off cushy salaries paid for by our union dues. They’re living lifestyles that look more like the grocery executives than the grocery workers. We’re living paycheck to paycheck, while they’re raking in hundreds of thousands of dollars a year.

At What Cost members have gone to almost every quarterly membership meeting for the last year. We’ve driven for three hours to get to Roseville on nights when we have work in the morning. We’ve shown up — but you know who hasn’t? Jacques Loveall, our president. Jacques hasn’t attended a single quarterly membership meeting.

Jacques hasn’t worked in a grocery store since the 1970s. If he doesn’t know what it’s like to be us and to work our jobs, how can he lead our union?

What experience does At What Cost have?

You can count on us to show up for the members, because we already are.

When NorCal Safeway workers were having their wages stolen by being kept on the wrong pay scale, we started organizing to fix it. We helped win thousands of dollars in backpay for members. Where was our union leadership?

We collected hundreds of rank-and-file bargaining surveys to learn what members wanted in our 2025 grocery contract negotiations.

We’re shop stewards and union activists with years of experience organizing our coworkers to enforce the contract, stand up to management, and fight for dignity and respect on the job.

How do I know you’ll be different?

We’re running for leadership because we love our union. We want a democratic, transparent union where members are in charge — that’s what unions are about.

If we’re elected, we’ll never cut a sweetheart deal with the company behind the members’ back. Members will be involved in every step of contract bargaining. We’ll have open bargaining, so no members are left in the dark about their own contract.

If At What Cost is elected, we’ll provide steward training for every steward in every store to enforce the contract and stand up to management.

Most importantly, we’ll make sure every member has a voice.
